The Importance of Mindset
Why is mindset so important?
Because it has a profound impact on our lives. The way we think shapes our reality. A positive mindset helps us navigate life's ups and downs with optimism and grace, allowing us to overcome obstacles and reach our goals. On the other hand, a negative mindset can keep us stuck in cycles of self-doubt, fear, and limitation, preventing us from tapping into our full potential.
Mindset: Glass Half Full or Half Empty?
Mindset can be seen as either a glass half empty or half full. When I feel that sense of victim mentality rising, I immediately use some tools to help shift my perspective. The key is to find what works best for you. For me, journaling with cards is a great place to start. I use a gratitude journal, focusing on simple things like a great cup of coffee. Going for a walk in nature (I’m lucky to live in the Dandenong Ranges) and listening to the sounds of the day is another option that helps ground me. Chatting with a mentor and putting things into perspective is also one of my go-to tools.
The difference now isn’t that I always have a great mindset; it’s that I can recognize when I need help and I seek it out. This has become easier the more I practice this mindset shift. Over time, I’ve seen how it really works. It’s about understanding your energetics. Even if you’re not into "woo-woo" stuff, you can notice the difference in people—whether they are carrying an emotional load or feeling light and positive.
I’ve always said to my kids, “Be mindful of what you put out, as it will come back to you.” If you put out negative thoughts and energy, you’ll likely attract more negativity. But if you change those thoughts to include some positive ones, you’ll feel the difference in the energy around you. It truly makes a difference, and it can be something as simple as going for a walk or writing your thoughts down.
