Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself. Using this healing power and gentle therapeutic techniques, the body, mind and emotions are supported during the healing process.

  1. How Does Naturopathy Work?

Naturopathy focuses on the underlying cause of a condition and applies treatments that work in alliance with the natural healing mechanisms of the body rather than against them. A naturopath not only treats the health challenge but also provides clear strategies to patients on how to empower and improve their life by minimising illnesses from the outset.

  1. What should I expect when I first see a Naturopath?

You will sit down one-on-one and talk about your medical history, your current concerns and health goals. Your naturopath will ask you about your sleeping patterns, energy levels, digestive function, diet, and mood. The goal is to make sure they gain a deep understanding of how your illness or discomfort works and how they are going to treat it.

The initial appointment takes 60 minutes, and you will be asked to fill in forms and answer several questions. This is an information gathering session.

The second appointment (45 mins) is when you are presented with a report of findings. This report outlines the condition you have presented with, why it is there, and what treatment is needed to bring back optimal health.

The following appointments are standard check up appointments which last 30 minutes.

  • Herbal Medicine to help prevent and treat various illnesses.
  • Dietary and Nutritional advice for restoration of balance, detoxification and prevention of disease.
  • Lifestyle advice to promote well-being and to reduce stress.

Naturopathy treatments are all evidence based and work alongside and in harmony with traditional medicine.

  1. Why might I visit a Naturopath?

If you are seeking an alternative treatment plan to conventional medicine or are just looking for a natural way to boost your health and wellbeing, a visit to a naturopath may be the answer for you.

You do not necessarily need an illness to visit a naturopath. If you are healthy, you can visit a naturopath to gain a full picture of your health. Naturopaths are also Nutritionists and can help you with diet planning.

  1. What qualifications does a Naturopath have?

Naturopaths study for 4 years to obtain a Bachelor of Health Science – Naturopathy. This is a recognised degree. All Naturopaths are required to be a registered member of a recognised Health service. For myself I am a member of Australian Natural Therapist Association.
